Soviet VEGA Halley's Comet Commemorative Stamp
We consider this to be wonderful collectible from a magnificent mission. Launched on the 15th December 1984 from Baikonur the VEGA 1 mission represented the most ambitious Soviet interplanetary mission accomplished to date. The tripartite mission objective consisted in placing advanced lander modules on the surface of Venus, deploying balloons in the Venusian atmosphere and finally, using Venusian gravity to send VEGA 1's fly-by bus on a rendezvous with Halley's comet. Vega was the first probe to reach Halley's Comet, passing within 10,000km of its nucleus on the 9th March 1986. In the meantime VEGA 2 was launched from Baikonur on the 21st December and having performed similar objectives to those of VEGA 1, the VEGA 2 fly-by bus arrived at Halley's Comet three days after VEGA 1, closing to within 7000km.

This wonderful commemorative stamp panel bears the official Soviet postal stamp issued to commemorate the two VEGA missions and the coming of Halley's Comet. It features an historic portrait of Sir Edmund Halley, Venus and Halley's Comet being encountered by four space probes (the two VEGA, the British Giotto and another one (American / Japanese; we can't identify or translate it immediately). Also features ground tracking stations. Measures just over 3.5" x 2.5". Absolute mint condition.

Official Soviet Resurs 500 Commemorative Medal
Launched into space from the Plesetsk Cosmodrome on the 15th November 1992, the Resurs-500 spacecraft and contents spent 7 days in Earth orbit before re-entry, recovered on the 22nd November just of the West Coast of America, 320km from Seattle. This flight was made to commemorate the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America by Columbus, the 35th anniversary of the space age, the 35th anniversary of the European Community and the Soviet International Year of Space.

This medal is a classic... it screams Soviet Union in it's feel, it's design and construction. Medals like this a VERY hard to come by and remain highly prized among museums and collectors world-wide. Front features the Resurs-500 spacecraft with it's launch and landing sites "Plesetzk" and "Seattle" in both English and Russian. Back features the orbital flight of the Resurs-500 craft with the text "Europe - America Space Flight 1992" in both English and Russian text. Minted in raised relief giving a real 3D quality design, measuring a stunning 2.5" (6cm) across and weighing 300g, this medal is a sure sign of quality and is quite simply stunning.

"Cosmonautics Day" Covers
Many collectors purchase the Soviet/Russian "Cosmonautics Day" covers or postcards which were issued in the
year they were born, their children or grandchildren were born, or for other significant years of their life.
Some collectors purchase them to compliment other items in their collection where the years coincide.
In addition to this, each cover commemorates the anniversary of Yuri Gagarin's historic 'first man in space' flight
and the designs of each cover will feature either Gagarin or another significant space moment of that year.
Whatever your reason; this is an important day of celebration, not only in Russia, but for all astronauts
Cosmonauts, space scientists and all space-faring countries around the world.
It celebrates not only the flight and life of Yuri Gagarin, but the day humankind finally fullfilled an age old dream.
