This official NASA Space Flight Awareness medal commemorates phase 1 of the International Space Station programme, more specifically STS-71, the first docking of the US Space Shuttle to the Russian Space Station Mir. This limited edition medal was minted by NASA using metal removed from the Space Shuttle Atlantis following this historic first docking and also from the Mir Space Station. It was minted for award to NASA employees who made this historic event possible. The medal exhibits the official ISS Phase 1 emblem and, in traditional NASA style, the declaration of authenticity is in raised text on the reverse. Highly collectible !!!

First Shuttle-Mir Docking Mission.
Largest Space Crew & Craft Ever In Orbit.
First Orbital Changeout Of A Shuttle Crew.
The primary objectives of the STS-71 mission were to rendezvous and dock with the Mir Space Station. Other prime objectives included joint US-Russian life sciences investigations aboard Spacelab and Mir, logistical resupply of Mir, recovery of US astronaut Norman Thagard and the delivery of two cosmonauts Solovyev and Budarin to Mir. The mission was a true success and marked the first docking of US and Russian crafts since the ASTP mission in 1975; some 20 years before.
This official NASA presentation was originally given to those involved in the mission. Contains a 1.5" square section of the payload bay liner removed from the payload bay of the Space Shuttle Atlantis following the STS-71 mission. Mounted to a NASA produced and issued security sealed card. Measures 7.5" x 5.5" with the declaration of authenticity in both English and Russian.

Highlights Seventh Shuttle-Mir Docking Mission.
SEEDS II was a project developed by NASA and the Park Seed Company. This complete student research kit contains 3 packets of seeds; one containing seeds flown in space aboard the Space Shuttle Atlantis mission STS-86 to the Mir Space Station, another containing seeds from NASA's underwater habitat in Florida and the third containing earth-based control seeds. All packs are new and un-opened, as issued by NASA. Supplied with these seeds is a colour illustrated booklet titled "SEEDS II, An Adventure In Scientific Inquiry" with information about the seeds, instructions for planting, growing and science research, illustrations and charts, and information about the STS-86 Shuttle mission to Mir. Also includes a large double-sided colour illustrated informative poster. This is the official pack designed and issued by NASA. Rare & Seldom Seen Available !!!
