 - The Definitive Biography Of Yuri Gagarin

This is a terrific story of the life of Yuri Gagarin; first man in space. It features some amazing archive footage and interviews with his cosmonaut colleagues, designers, family and fiends. Filmed on location at his house and other significant places of his life, this is certainly the most definitive autobiography of Yuri Gagarin.
From his birth and humble up-bringing within a working class peasant family, this documentary takes you through the majors events of his life including; the German occupation of his childhood home during the War, his interest in aviation, military college, Sputnik, Korolev, the Soviet race to put a man in space, cosmonaut training, relations between Gagarin and Titov, Gagarin talking about his flight, the radio broadcast announcing his spaceflight, his return to earth and the farmer and school children who first saw him, the media frenzy, the national celebrations, his world tour, the pressures on his wife, a family holiday with Titov ad alleged sexual harassment scandal, his balcony fall/jump, the Soviet cover-up of the incident, temptations to stray from his family life and his vigilant wife, the fall of his fame, glory and importance as a Soviet hero, training for the flight of Vostok 1, the death of Komorov on Vostok 1 and the suspected Soviet cover-up, Gagarin's desperate but failed attempts to stop the mission and to investigate the accident, his return to flying planes, his training flight crash and death, his funeral and mourning, the hidden crash relics sealed in a vault, discrepancies in the investigation regarding his death, and finally Gagarin's legacy in modern spaceflight, including a quote from Neil Armstrong.
Exceptional footage and insight to an exceptional man. Recommended.
